Turfgrasses and the Environment

Turfgrasses and the Environment

The OSU-OKC Turf Management Training Center teaches and encourages environmental awareness and successful turf management without harm to the surrounding areas. From the homeowner who wants a healthy green lawn to the turf management specialist responsible for a major facility, education and preservation of our environment should be a major priority. More than aesthetics, turf management must also include an awareness of how ecosystems, the environment and turfgrasses interact.

Located at the crossroads of Interstate 40 and Interstate 44, OSU-OKC is surrounded by business and industry. The horticulture center provides a wildlife habitat within this industrialized area of Oklahoma City. It is the ideal location to display and teach wildlife conservation and the sound environmental practices associated with turf management.

The OSU-Oklahoma City John E. Kirkpatrick Horticulture Center is a member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program. This education program encourages community awareness and involvement in the protection and enhancement of wildlife habitats and the conservation of natural resources. Through the Turf Management Training Center, OSU-Oklahoma City educates the community on environmental issues and demonstrates how we all can be good stewards of our environment.
