Dooly Barlow

Event & Tour Specialist

Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation

 

Dooly Barlow is the Event & Tour Specialist at The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation. His responsibilities include assisting with educational events and tours. Barlow’s move to Event & Tour Specialist allows the Ag Division to accommodate increased requests for tours, especially from school groups. He plans to establish some “hands on” sites to help educate both students and adults.

 

He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from Texas A&M University. Barlow is a Certified Professional Horticulturist (CPH) through the American Society for Horticultural Sciences.

 

Before working in his current position, Barlow was a horticulture specialist in the Ag Division. He worked with a variety of horticultural crops, but his special interests were fruit and nut trees, and landscaping, including ornamentals and turf grasses.

 

Barlow serves on several advisory boards, including OSU-Oklahoma City’s Horticultural Department, Ardmore Tree Board and the Southern Oklahoma Technology Center. He is active in numerous professional organizations.

 
 

Mike Buxton

Certified Golf Course Superintendent

Lakeside Golf Course

 

Mike Buxton is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Sciences with a focus on Turf grass management with a minor in Agronomy.

 

While at OSU, he worked at the OSU Turf grass Research Station at Stillwater Country Club at Karsten Creek, and interned at Pleasant Valley Country Club. Following college Buxton worked as an assistant superintendent at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Tulsa. He accepted the position of construction superintendent at Crimson Creek Golf Club in El Reno in 1997. In 2000 he took the position of superintendent at Lakeside Golf Course. In 2003 Mike became a Certified Golf Course Superintendent.

 

Buxton is an active member of the Oklahoma Golf Course Superintendents Association, Oklahoma Turfgrass Research Foundation and the OSU-Oklahoma City Turf Advisory Committee. He currently serves as past president of the Oklahoma Turfgrass Research Foundation.

 
 

Cary Glasse

Hunter Industries
Central States - Sales

 

Cary Glasse works for Hunter Industries in Central States sales. He began installing irrigation systems in 1976 as a part of a family-owned lawn maintenance business. Initially, he worked for his father and eventually owned his own business through 1994. Glasse then started with Wichita Pump & Supply Co. Inc. working in both sales and purchasing. After this, he started working for Tree Top Nursery and Landscaping Inc. establishing and managing their irrigation department. He then went to work for Hunter Industries as a sales manager covering Kansas, Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas, and later, specification sales in the Kansas City area.

 

Glasse is a CID and CLIA.

 

Glasse has two sons and a daughter. He enjoys golfing with his sons as often as possible and stays busy with club soccer. When he’s not watching soccer or playing golf, Glasse enjoys camping, fishing, canoeing, cookouts, and spending time with family and friends.

 
 

Larry Lindsey

Salesman

Winfield Solutions

 

Larry Lindsey obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1977. Since then, he served as a turf and ornamental salesman with Estes, Inc. The company was recently purchased by Winfield Solutions, a company of Land O’ Lakes, where Lindsey currently works in the same capacity. He looks forward to continue service to their wonderful customers and friends for Winfield Solutions.

 

Lindsey has served on the Board of Directors of The Oklahoma Turfgrass Research Foundation.

 
 

Dennis Martin, PhD

Professor & Turfgrass Extension/Research Specialist
Oklahoma State University

 

Dr. Dennis Martin is a Professor and Turfgrass Extension Educator with Oklahoma State University. He has served as Education Director for the Oklahoma Turfgrass Research Foundation for 18 years and four years on the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program Policy Committee. Dr. Martin is responsible for development of the educational sessions at the Oklahoma Turfgrass Conference, various OSU turfgrass field days, workshops, herbicide field screening trials, turfgrass cultivar trials, graduate student advising and development of turf management fact sheets from OSU.

 

Dr. Martin’s Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Doctorate are from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

 

He has conducted over 14,000 turf consultations with the lawn care, grounds, golf course and sod production industries in Oklahoma and the region. He is part of the five person turfgrass team credited with the development and commercialization of Midlawn, Midfield, Yukon, Riviera and Patriot bermudagrasses.

 
 

Alan Nietenhoefer

Stillwater Site Manager/Golf & Turf Sales Manager
P&K Equipment, Inc.

 

Alan Nietenhoefer is the Stillwater Site Manager and Golf & Turf Sales Manager at P&K Equipment, Inc. in Stillwater, Okla. Nietenhoefer obtained his AgriBusiness degree from Tarleton State University in 1989. Before coming to P&K Equipment, Inc., Nietenhoefer worked at Stillwater Equipment, John Deere and Meridian Technical Center.

 

Nietenhoefer has been married for 16 years and has two sons. He also runs a calf operation on 240 acres south of Stillwater. In his spare time he enjoys all outdoor activities and sports, including coaching second- to sixth-grade football and baseball.

 
 

Dennis Qualls

Account Manager
SBG Services, INC

 

Dennis Qualls is an Account Manager for SBG Services, INC. His responsibilities include overseeing the landscape maintenance contracts of 11 Service Corporation International owned cemeteries located in Oklahoma and Texas. He also assists with the funeral, burial and cremation service contracts within the Oklahoma market.

 

He obtained his Associate of Applied Science in Turfgrass Management from OSU-Oklahoma City and also completed all but a student teaching semester toward a Bachelor of Science in Education in Physical Education/Education from Oklahoma Christian University.

 

Before working in his current position, Qualls has spent the better part of the last 15 years working in various aspects of the landscaping industry. He spent seven years working at Casady School as the Athletic Fields/Grounds Manager where he won several Field of the Year awards for his work on “Hoot” Gibson Field and Hiller Field. He also spent time with Maxwell Landscaping, Ominplex Botanical Gardens and SWB Bricktown Ballpark.

 

Qualls has been a member of the Sports Turf Management Association, Irrigation Association and OKC Beautiful.

 
 

Jeff Salmond, CSFM

Director of Athletic Field Management
University of Oklahoma

 

Jeff Salmond is the Director of Athletic Field Management at the University of Oklahoma. In his role, he oversees the personnel and the management for all athletic fields for OU Athletics. Since his arrival in 2007, he has worked with various athletic facility construction projects and improvements.

 

Salmond obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Plant Science at the University of Missouri and his Master of Science in Horticulture at Iowa State University. He has been a Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) member since 1995 and became a Certified Sports Field Manager (CSFM) in 2003. He also serves on the Sports Turf Manager’s Association Board of Directors.

 

Before coming to OU, Salmond’s experience includes working as the agronomist at Northwestern University and the athletic turf manager for the University of New Mexico. He was also an assistant field maintenance manager for the National Football League’s Baltimore Ravens from 1998-2000.

 

In addition, Salmond has written articles and contributed to columns for the sports turf industry. He has also presented at regional and national conferences and was instrumental in launching the STMA Student Challenge and college student involvement.
