Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City

The Associate in Applied Science in Turf Management degree program is a result of the rapid growth of the highly specialized multi-billion dollar U.S. turf industry. Worldwide, professional sports teams are converting artificial playing surfaces to natural turf and golf course development across the nation is steadily increasing.

The demand continues to increase for turf and landscape managers with broad-based hands-on experience and education in scientific fields including agronomy, entomology and plant pathology. Graduates of the OSU-OKC turf management degree program have the knowledge and skills needed for a career in this expanding industry.

"OSU-Oklahoma City realizes the importance of education in bringing quality to the industry with well-trained turfgrass specialists."

-- Monte McCoy,
Head Groundskeeper,
Oklahoma Redhawks

Using a living laboratory, OSU-OKC students become actively involved in all phases of turf management and related environmental issues. Classroom theory turns to real life experience as students learn what it takes to construct and manage turf on a day-to-day basis.

The outdoor laboratory includes a five-hole instructional golf course, as well as displays of the most current turfgrass varieties, under many different management schemes. This provides students, the industry and the community with the opportunity to evaluate the response of different grasses under the same environmental conditions.

Turf Management Training Program Extensive hands-on experience equips our students with the skills and knowledge needed to work as professionals in turf and landscape management. Related career areas include: residential complex managers, sod producers, landscape contractors, research and extension experts retail sales and services, consultants, parks and recreation managers, irrigation design and installation specialists, lawn care maintenance providers and roadway mangers. Homeowners and gardeners also benefit from training in turf and landscape management.
