Kim Pearsall, Associate
Professor; Associate Division Head of Human Services
Department Head, Early Care Education.
I have been with OSU-Oklahoma City since our program began in the fall
of 2001. The course I typically always
teach is the capstone course, ECEA 2513 Occupational Proficiency, which is home
to the infamous Final Assessment! My remaining course load is made up of
various other early care education on-ground and online courses. I’ve been in the early care field in one
capacity or another since 1978. My
experience began in a church setting as children’s director of programs and
went on to include two years as a classroom teacher in a licensed child care
facility; five plus years as a family child care owner and primary caregiver, during which
time I earned my Child Development Associate Credential and National
Accreditation with the National Association of Family Day Care; five years of
indirect services to children working as first the curriculum specialist then
Program Director for Child Care Careers, Inc., during which time I began my
journey to earn my undergraduate degree; and three plus years as a director of
an Oklahoma licensed child care facility licensed for 142 children, during this
time I completed my undergraduate and began my graduate degree. From my director’s position, I accepted the
position with OSU-Oklahoma City as Instructor for the brand-new early care
education program in the fall of 2001. During this time I have completed my
graduate degree. The past six years with
OSU-Oklahoma City has truly been rewarding being part of the team with our
fabulous Scholar Coordinator and Adjuncts in assisting our early care education
students as they reach their individual educational goals. If you are in the neighborhood of Reno &
Portland, stop by the Public Safety Training Center, office 100d. I would enjoy meeting you and sharing
information about our early care education programs while listening to your
academic goals….together we can map out a successful journey for your academic
dreams!

Education:
· Master of Science degree, Child and Family
Development, University of Central Oklahoma
· Child Development Associate Certificate, Oklahoma City
Community College
· Bachelor of Science degree, Social Sciences, Illinois
State University
Employment:
I have been employed as the Early Childhood
Coordinator for the Maternal Child Health Service at the Oklahoma State
Department of Health for the past ten years, focusing on improving the health
and safety of early care settings in Oklahoma and building an early childhood
system.
In
my “spare time” for fun and the stimulating discussions and interactions of
working with the Early Care and Education students, I am Adjunct Faculty at
Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City campus. I have been teaching classes at OSU-OKC since
2003.
I began my career with young children and families
working as the lead teacher at a Community Action Agency Infant Toddler Center
in Illinois. Moving to Oklahoma I worked
in a child development center as a teacher in the four-year-old classroom, and
then moved on to have my own licensed family child care home for over seven years. After receiving my Masters Degree in 1991 I
went to work at Rainbow Fleet as a Child Development Specialist and Food
Program Monitor, then several years later became a Training Specialist with
Parents as Partners.
My favorite part of teaching Early Care &
Education students at OSU-OKC is watching and hearing the changes that are made
in the short time that we are together.
Most of the students are already working with children and truly want to
create the best possible environment for children and families. I am always humbled by the amazing hard work
that they do each day, in addition to attending class and completing homework
assignments.
Jennifer
Duclos, Adjunct Instructor
Jennifer Duclos began her employment as a Master
Teacher at the OSU-OKC Child Development Center in 1994. In June of 2006, she accepted the position as
Director of our Child Development Center Lab School. Jennifer’s entire career in early childhood
has been within the walls of NAEYC accredited facilities. In April, 2008 the OSU-OKC Lab School earned
its sixth national NAEYC accreditation.
In addition to her devotion to our Child Development
Center Lab School, Jennifer has been on the Early Care and Education Advisory
Board since its inception in 2002. And
as an adjunct instructor, she has taught
numerous courses within the Early Care Department since 2004.
Jennifer’s true passion, Child Passenger Safety. Jennifer feels that the most rewarding course she has taught is
ECEA 1143 Child Passenger Safety & Transportation. With Jennifer’s initiative and assistance,
this course was added to the degree program in 2005 and put OSU-Oklahoma City
in the national spotlight as the first University in the world to offer a Child
Passenger Safety certification course at a collegiate level. To date, we remain the only degree program to
require this course.
