Printer Friendly Format (pdf)Driving Training Program - Employee Benefit

OSU-Oklahoma City provides its employees the opportunity to receive safe driving training at our own Precision Driving Training Center (PDTC), a one-of-a-kind facility in the Southwestern United States. This training is offered through a one-day defensive driving course and is approved by the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety. There is no cost to the employee for this course.

Participants will develop an advanced understanding of vehicle capabilities, and gain confidence by learning accident avoidance and skid control/recovery techniques first hand. Plus it is a blast! Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive a certificate that can be used for a discount on personal vehicle insurance rates. The training is effective for three years.

To be eligible for this benefit, an employee must be in a continuous assignment (either part-time or full-time), for at least 90 days. Temporary employees are not eligible for this benefit. Employees whose positions are grant-funded must have the grant director’s approval. Grants must pay for their employees’ training. For all employees, training requires supervisor and vice president approval.

Enrollment Procedures
Employees may enroll in a one-day defensive driving course at http://www.osuokc.edu/pdtcregistration/.

  1. View the PDTC training calendar for potential dates.
  2. See your supervisor for approved leave (training is an employee benefit and is conducted during working hours 8 a.m.to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday).
  3. Contact the PDTC to confirm date (space is subject to availability).
  4. Complete and submit the on-line registration form located at http://www.osuokc.edu/pdtcregistration/.
  5. The PDTC will send an e-mail confirmation within 24 hours.

Cancellation Requirements
If an employee is unable to attend class on the scheduled date, a cancellation notice must be received by the PDTC office 24 hours prior to the class start date either by phone, 945-3208, or e-mail pdtc@osuokc.edu.

If an employee fails to attend class, without 24 hour prior notification to the PDTC, the employee’s immediate supervisor and vice president will be notified. Although driving training is provided at no cost to employees, there is a financial cost incurred by the institution for the training.

This training is optional unless you drive a school-owned vehicle. If you drive a school-owned vehicle, you will be required to complete the PDTC Defensive Driving course. If you drive a school-owned 15-passenger van, you will be required to complete the PDTC 15-Passenger Van course.
