OSU-OKC to Host Disability Services Transition Workshop

OSU-Oklahoma City will host a High School to College Disability Services Transition Workshop Thursday, Nov. 5 on campus. Metro area high school special education professionals and postsecondary education disability services providers have been invited to this annual event and more than twice as many plan to attend this year.

The workshop will focus on the transition of students from high school special education programs to the college environment. Several topics will be addressed including reasonable disability accommodations in college and disability documentation guidelines. In addition, a college disability services panel of representatives from local colleges and universities will be present.

“This event is a fantastic way for high school special education teachers and counselors to learn how they can help their students with disabilities transition into the college setting,” said Emily Cheng, OSU-OKC academic advisor to students with disabilities. “It’s also a great opportunity for college disability services providers to communicate and coordinate with high school special education staff for the benefit of the students.”

Cheng further notes, “We are so pleased to be able to bring high schools and colleges together in this forum to promote the success of not only potential OSU-OKC students with disabilities, but for all high school students with disabilities who want to go to college.”
