Commission for Dietetic Registration Grant to Benefit OSU-OKC
OSU-Oklahoma City’s Dietetic Technology Department Head Catherine Palmer is part of a team of educators who were awarded a grant from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation. The grant, totaling more than $140,000, is funded by the Commission for Dietetic Registration.
The grant’s aim is to modify the WorldVisitA Electronic Health Record open-source software for use as a simulation tool to enhance learning of medical nutrition therapy by students enrolled in educational programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Through the grant, OSU-OKC dietetic students will be able to take part in a simulation pilot of the software.
WorldVistA is a charitable organization that has a goal to improve healthcare worldwide by making medical information technology better and universally affordable.
Dr. Patti Landers, dietetic internship director at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center’s (OUHSC) College of Allied Health, was recently awarded the grant along with her team members Peggy Turner, director of the didactic program at the OUHSC, and OSU-OKC’s Palmer.
