Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City

Program Mission

Our goal with the Technical Spanish – Translation/Interpretation program is to provide the theoretical and practical knowledge, skills and necessary tools to connect the Spanish-speaking community and the health care, business, legal and law enforcement fields.

Meeting the Need

Oklahoma has a growing Spanish-speaking community, and government agencies and businesses want better communication with this community. The OSU-Oklahoma City Associate of Applied Science in Technical Spanish/Translation and Interpretation degree prepares graduates to translate and interpret from Spanish to English and vice versa, facilitating accurate communication between the individual and the provider.

There are no similar or related A.A.S. degrees in Oklahoma. In contrast to other Associate of Applied Science degrees offered in Oklahoma, OSU-Oklahoma City’s Technical Spanish-Translation/Interpretation degrees offer industry specific training. These degrees are designed to equip students with the technical expertise to effectively translate and/or interpret business, legal, medical, and health care settings with professional, ethical standards.

Benefits of the Degree

Graduates find jobs interpreting and translating in public and private sector organizations, such as hospitals, courts, businesses, government departments or as independent contractors. The public is served better by having more qualified interpreters in the field. For example, police officers and hospital workers benefit from being able to work without having to wait for interpreters to be found to help with clients/patients.
