Staff Recognized for Innovative Ideas

Two OSU-Oklahoma City staff members received recognition and a cash award for their Creative Staff Innovation idea at the Fall 2009 Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges Support Staff conference.

Joaquin Ruiz won second place with his CSI entry focusing on Hispanic parental involvement and creating bilingual personalized visits and campus tours.

“It’s great to be recognized for simply doing my job,” Ruiz said. “I hope this encourages Hispanic families to come to OSU-OKC and take a campus tour.”

Roberta Hollen won third place by being “The Candy Lady.” Before enrollment begins, she visits Business Technologies division classes with a basket of candy and business cards to remind students of enrollment dates, degree audits and other important information.

“I think it’s really important to be able to share our thoughts about how to help the students, and it is always nice to be recognized” Hollen said.

Loretta Hatchett and Janet Stricklin also submitted entries.
