Hispanic Student Association Celebrates Heritage

OSU-OKC’s Hispanic Student Association (HSA) recently took part in the Fiestas de las Americas, the eleventh annual celebration of Oklahoma’s multicultural heritage during Hispanic Heritage month in the Historic Capitol Hill Business District.

“Every piece put on this float represents bonding time we had with one another,” said Janely Franco, OSU-OKC HSA treasurer. “I feel like it helped me get to know everyone on a different level outside of school.”

The group created a float that was included in the colorful Parade of the Americas, an exhibition of culture and civic pride. HSA was one of nearly 100 school groups, cultural organizations, equestrian clubs, nonprofit organizations, corporations and small businesses to take part in the parade.

“The best outcome wasn’t to win, but to gain a family and sure enough we succeeded,” said Jennifer Medina, OSU-OKC HSA vice president.
