OSU-OKC Student Awarded Nigh Public Service Scholarship

(March 23, 2016, Oklahoma City, OK) – Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC) student Ana Bugarin was recently awarded the coveted Nigh Public Service Scholarship, recognizing her for hard work and dedication to her studies and chosen career path.

Bugarin was alerted to the scholarship by OSU-OKC Public Service professor Robin Scott, Ph.D. “She has been my guiding light at OSU-OKC,” said Bugarin. “I’ve had her as a professor three times and am thankful she recommended I apply for the Nigh Scholarship.”

Professor Scott says Bugarin is “marked by her great attitude, willing spirit and consistency,” which made her an ideal candidate for the scholarship.

Bugarin’s involvement in extracurricular activities also contributed to her success. She is a member of the Student Ambassadors and a visible presence on campus, especially to new students during the university’s yearly Orange Crush orientation.

The George and Donna Nigh Public Service Scholarship was established by the 1999 Oklahoma Legislature to reward high-achieving students preparing for a career in public service. Those awarded the scholarship are given $1,000 to put toward their studies and are invited to attend seminars meant to deepen their knowledge of public service.

Upon her graduation from OSU-OKC in December 2016, Bugarin plans to transfer to OSU’s Stillwater campus to pursue her bachelor’s degree in casework. “I want to be able to work in the nonprofit sector, preferably with abused minors,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to help my community.”
