OSU-OKC Student Wins Sponsorship to Washington, D.C. Conference

OSU-Oklahoma City student Kassandra Segura-Morales is counting down the days to October 20. With the help of the Hispanic Student Association Advisor Alfredo Melchor, Segura-Morales won a sponsorship to the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) 26th Annual Conference to be held October 20-22 in Washington, D.C.

“Kassandra is just one of many talented students involved in the school’s Hispanic Student Association,” Melchor said. “To be selected out of applicants from all across the United States is not only a testament to the quality of students at OSU-OKC but also to Kassandra’s hard work and dedication.”

Segura-Morales is currently studying to earn an associate’s degree in Technical Spanish/Translation and Interpretation. A native of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, she applied for the conference sponsorship after Melchor told her of the opportunity.

“I decided to apply after learning that [HACU] provides students with a chance to meet recruiters and other professionals to help our college educational path,” Segura-Morales said. “Never in a million years did I think I would be sponsored to attend this annual conference for scholars.”

Celebrating its 26th year, the conference provides a unique forum for the sharing of information and ideas for the best and most promising practices in the education of Hispanics. This year’s theme is Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success: Advancing Access and Opportunity in a Changing Environment.

“I am truly looking forward to meeting professionals and learn the most I can to further my knowledge on my career path and educational dream,” Segura-Morales says. “More than anything, I want to make myself known to others to open up more doors for my future!”
