Donors, Community Celebrate OSU-OKC Engineering Technology Center Grand Opening

OSU-Oklahoma City recently hosted donors, students, faculty, staff and community members at the Engineering Technology Center grand opening. The state-of-the-art facility will house all of the OSU-OKC Science & Engineering Division degree programs.

The university began construction of the Engineering Technology Center in March 2010 after experiencing a 70% increase in OSU-OKC engineering programs in the last five years.

“The recent growth in this area, the new degrees and certificates that are being added and the new building will ensure that OSU-OKC further enhances its leadership in engineering programs specifically and technical education in general,” said Dr. Larry Edwards, Academic Affairs vice president.

The 26,000-square-foot facility is LEED certified and houses six multi-use classrooms, six program-specific classrooms/labs, and a 2,400-square-foot energy center lab.

The Engineering Technology Center would not have been possible without the generosity of donors. Sundt Construction Inc. CEO and Chairman J. Doug Pruitt was integral to the building’s creation. Pruitt, who is also an OSU-OKC alumnus, spoke at the grand opening event.

Additional donors include: Advanced Control Systems, Climate Master, Fluke Corporation, INTRUST Bank, Municipal Electrical Systems of Oklahoma (MESO), Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives (OAEC), OG&E, Oklahoma Society of Land Surveyors (OSLS), P&K Equipment, Sarkeys Foundation, and Technology for Energy Corporation.

OSU-OKC’s Division of Science & Engineering programs include Architecture Technology, Construction Technology, Electrical Power Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Fire Protection and Safety Technology, General Engineering Technology, Occupational and Environmental Safety, Power Transmission and Distribution Technology, Renewable and Sustainable Energy, Surveying Technology, and Wind Turbine Technology.

In conjunction with the building’s unveiling, OSU-OKC President Natalie Shirley announced the grand opening is the first of a series of events planned to commemorate the university’s 50th anniversary.
